Historic Cave Bear Skull, Ursus ingressus

Historic Cave Bear Skull, Ursus ingressus

$12,000.00

A very large, true cave bear skull excavated in the mid 1950’s (provenance included) from the 12’ layer of the famous Dragon Hole in the Mixnitzer region of Austria. Now a world heritage site, the last cave bear fossils came out in the 1960’s. Much more common Ursus spelaeus are considered cave bears, but Ursus ingressus is the original Austrian cave bear. They are distinguished by huge skulls, high brows, and teeth that are noticeably smaller than Ursus spelaeus.
